Healthy Youth Act FAQ
The Healthy Youth Act is a 2009 state law that updated North Carolina's sex education laws to include a more comprehensive education rather than abstinence only. Many questions about why abstinence only education is no longer taught can be found here.
Parents are encouraged to contact your child's health teacher (email is preferred) with any questions or concerns. Lesson plans for all sex education lessons can be made available by the front office; however, all questions should be directed to the health teachers. Any parent wishing to remove their child from sex education classes may do so in writing to the school principal. An alternative assignment will be provided.
